All mats are handmade of forest rattans and natural leaf dyes by  Penan, Kayan, Kenyah and Iban communities in Sarawak, Malaysia. We pay above-market prices for maximum community benefit. The weaving workmanship is the best in the world, using only traditional techniques and materials. The beautiful black color comes from the leaf compounds oxidizing the rattan when buried under the earth for over a week. The color never fades. The rattan is top quality, flexible, and last for decades.
